Lady Don Saila arrested
Bhubaneswar: After 10 days of the attack
on the police by Haladipadia slum-dwellers in the city, the Commissionerate
Police on Thursdaysaid the Laxmisagar police have arrested Saila Ransingh,
called Lady Don, and three others for their involvement in the attack.
A civil contractor was shot dead in broad daylight
Bhubaneswar: A civil contractor was shot dead in broad
daylight Thursday at an under-construction building site
near AIIMS at Patrapada in the city. The contractor was allegedly killed by a
gang that was demanding extortion money from the deceased to let him continue
with an ongoing deal.

Vehicle theft racket five arrested including three Engineering Students
Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police today busted a gang of
criminals in the Odisha capital comprising Engineering and a MBA
Students involved in a vehicle lifting racket and arrested five persons in this
connection, including three engineering students. Interestingly, police said
the gang members used to spend lavishly on their girlfriends and indulged in
vehicle theft to fulfill their material demands. The police also recovered
stolen vehicles, fire arms and other incriminating articles from their
possession.
Sex racket under Massage Parlor
Bhubaneswar: A sex racket involving four women and a pimp was
busted Saturday in a residential area of Goutam Nagar under Badagada
police limits. The racket was being run under the garb of A herbal spa, and was

Man jumps to death from Na tala in Capital
Bhubaneswar: In Bhubaneswar a middle-aged man working as an
assistant senior manager with Reliance in Surat jumped to his death from the
nine-storied Heads of the Department’s building, popularly known as Na’tala
here. The deceased, identified as Pratap Chandra Swain (49), a native of
Nilagiri in Baleswar district, was said to be mentally unstable.

Understanding between BJD, BJP CBI Going Slow in Ponzi Scam Probe: Raja
Bhubaneswar: Voicing concern over a perception that CBI probe
into chit fund scam in Odisha had slowed down, the CPI said Chief Minister
Naveen Patnaik should clarify if there was any tacit understanding between BJD
and BJP in this regard."There is a perception that CPI investigation into
chit fund scam in Odisha has become very slow. People feel there may be a
subtle, tacit understanding between BJD and BJP on the issue and the chief
minister should explain," CPI national secretary D Raja told.Stating that
some ruling BJD leaders were involved in chit fund scam cases, he said CBI must
play a proactive role in pursuing the matter and investigate into the scam in
an expeditious and fair manner. Raja said concrete steps should be taken to
ensure justice to the poor people who were duped of their hard-earned money by
unscrupulous ponzi scheme companies.
"We believe in the rule of law. People should get
justice and law should take its course," he said.

Two robbers held in capital
Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested two persons who were involved in robberies in
Saheed Nagar and VSS Nagar area in 2014. Over 40 grams of gold ornaments and
one kg of silver were recovered from their possession. The accused are Pratap
Paramanika (25) of Baghamari in Khurda district and Moti Prasad Soren (36) of
Mancheswar line sahi basti in Khurda district.
The
two was involved in two robberies on December 1 and 10 last year. A
39-year-old goldsmith, Ramesh Chinare of Ganesh Bazar at Bolagarh in Nayagarh
district, was also arrested in the case.
Chinare
had purchased stolen ornaments from the accused duo on both occasions and also
managed to sell some quantity of the yellow metal. The arrested were booked
under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC and produced in a court which sent them
to judicial custody.

Two held for attacking Laxmisagar cops
Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a woman, were arrested
and court forwarded by Commissionerate Police on Tuesday for attacking police personnel at Haldipadia slum under Laxmisagar
police limits on Monday evening.
The two were identified as Jitendra Karada and Mamata Nayak. Both were sent to
judicial custody in Jharpada after their bail plea was rejected by court.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab other culprits involved in the case.

advantage of the dispute to plan attack on the policemen. Notably, Saila is an
influential lady in Haldipadia basti.
A group of residents of Haldipada slum had thrashed a
group of policemen on Monday after the cops allegedly refused to
register an FIR. One Santosh Jena of the slum, who is married, had impregnated
a girl of the same locality. The parents of the victim had approached
Laxmisagar police station to file an FIR against Santosh but the cops allegedly
did not register the FIR. On the other hand, the residents of the slum tied
Santosh and thrashed him mercilessly when he tried to set ablaze his wife by
putting kerosene all over her body. After getting information, police rushed to
the spot to rescue him but the angry slum dwellers attacked the cops leaving
them injured.

Another woman arrested for attacking Laxmisagar cops
Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar police today arrested another woman
from Santipalli basti in Odisha Capital in connection with the attack on
policemen at Haldipadia slum on Monday evening. She was identified as
Binati Patra. Police sources said Binati was arrested while she was trying to
escape from the basti towards Bhubaneswar railway station to board a
train.During the brawl with the police personnel, Binati had assisted the lady
don Saila Ranasingh in attacking the cops, they said.Binati is the third
person to be arrested in connection with the case. The other two – Mamata Nayak
and Jitendra Karad – are now in Jharapada jail here after their bail plea was
rejected by a local court yesterday.Police has registered cases against 24
persons for the attack on the policemen which left five of them, including
Laxmisagar IIC Rajat Ray, injured. Meanwhile Police has intensified its manhunt
to arrest Saila, her son Tutu Ranasingh, son-in-law Rajkamal Panda and daughter
Pinky Panda.Police suspects that the accused persons might have fled out of the
state. A police team today verified the CCTV footage of Bhubaneswar railway
station to get a clue whether they have boarded any train.

Second Chilika Fresh outlet in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The
Odisha government on Sunday opened the second Chilika Fresh outlet in
Bhubaneswar for sale of fresh fish and crabs from Chilika lake. Agriculture,
Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Pradeep Maharathy
inaugurated the second Chilika Fresh outlet in the premises of Directorate of
Horticulture at Nayapalli.
The
outlet offers fish, shrimps, prawn and crabs from the Chilika lake. Besides
fresh fish and solar dried fish, ready to cook export quality seafood will also
be available for sale. The second "CHILIKA FRESH", a modern
hygienic pre-fabricated fish retail selling kiosk will cater to the need of
fish eating population of Nayapalli and adjoining areas of Bhubaneswar city. The
Kiosk has been set up with financial support from the state government and
National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). Directorate of horticulture has
provided the space for it. The Kiosk will be operated by FISHFED.
This kiosk is being set up after the huge success of the
first Chilika Fresh Kiosk opened at Siripur near OUAT.After the success of
1st Chilika Fresh Kiosk at Siripur near OUAT, this kiosk is being set up. More
such kiosks will be set up in various potential places of Bhubaneswar like
Shahid Nagar, Jayadev Vihar, Unit-9, Pokhriput etc. After evaluating its success,
similar kiosks will be started in other cities of our state like Cuttack,
Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur. Bhubaneswar MP Dr. Prasanna Patsani, MLA
North Sj Priyadarshi Mishra, Mayor BMC Sri Ananta Narayan Jena,
